Brief description

The Department of Systems and Biomedical Engineering (SBME) at Cairo University was inaugurated in 1976. From the first graduating class in 1980 till today, the number of graduates exceeded 3000 engineers who work in different biomedical engineering fields such as medical device design, biomedical informatics development, clinical engineering, and maintenance of medical equipment. As a multi-disciplinary department combining in its study elements from electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, medical sciences, biology, physics, and mathematics, SBME graduates are unique and equipped with sufficient and strong state-of-the-art knowledge, training and skills that allow them to enter challenging work fields. The department offers Diploma, Master, and PhD degrees. The annual SBME enrollment is around 300 undergraduate and 75 graduate local and international students. The department has 30 active faculty members and 16 teaching and research assistants with a student-to-faculty ratio of 10.
