Brief description
Malawi University of Science and Technology is the fourth public university in Malawi established by Act of Parliament No. 31 of 2012 with an aim to promote the development, adaptation, transfer and application of science, technology and innovation for macro- and micro-economic development of Malawi. The Malawi University of Science and Technology has five schools (faculties) namely: Malawi Institute of Technology (MIT), Ndata School of Climate and Earth Sciences (NSCES), Academy of Medical Sciences, the Bingu School of African Culture and Heritage, and the School of Information and Technology. The university has a student population of 839 students. The engineering department is under the MIT School. Currently the Engineering Department has three undergraduate engineering programs and one postgraduate program. MUST has the following undergraduate engineering programs: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical engineering and, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Besides the Engineering Department offers one Master’s Program in Innovation.
MUST is striving to be a world class centre of science and technology in terms of education, research and entrepreneurship. This vision is being realised through provision of a favourable environment for quality education, training, research, entrepreneurship and outreach activities hence facilitating economic growth in Malawi and beyond. MUST is collaborating with both local and international institutions. Besides MUST is working on collaboration process with local and international universities such as University of Malawi, University of Strathclyde and Virginia Tech University just to name a few.
